Air conditioning installation

Correctly sized split, multi-split and commercial systems, placed and piped so they run quietly and efficiently for years.

Most problems with an air conditioner start on the day it is installed. A unit that is too small runs flat out and never quite cools the room. One that is too big cools in short bursts and leaves the air damp and clammy, which you really notice in Richards Bay's humidity.

We start with the room itself: its size, which way it faces, how much glass it has and how it is used. Then we recommend a unit and a position for the indoor and outdoor units that keeps the pipe run short, the drainage reliable and the outdoor unit protected from the worst of the sea air.

How it works

A split system has two halves joined by refrigerant pipework. Most long-term problems come from how these connections, the drain and the outdoor unit's position are handled.

Which type of system suits the space?

Most homes need wall-mounted splits. Larger and commercial spaces have other options. We recommend one after seeing the site.

Installation questions

What size air conditioner do I need?

It depends on the room's floor area, ceiling height, sun exposure, glazing and how many people use it. Our BTU calculator gives a good first estimate. We confirm the final size on site before quoting.

Should I choose an inverter unit?

For rooms that are cooled for several hours a day, usually yes. An inverter compressor slows down instead of switching off and on, which uses less electricity and holds a steadier temperature. We will tell you if a fixed-speed unit makes more sense for your situation.

How long does an installation take?

A typical single split unit with a short pipe run is done in a day. Multi-room and commercial installations are scheduled after the site assessment.
